News Alert: RefMan and PubMed
Many of you are aware that PubMed has implemented system infrastructure
enhancements that affect the Internet Search feature in Reference Manager.
Please review the appropriate notice below for an update.
Notice for RefMan v10 customers (single-user version): Good news!
We have certified an update and Refman 10.0.1 is available at no charge
from our website to all registered Refman 10 users. This update restores
the Internet Search feature in Reference Manager. Download the Reference
Manager 10.0.1 Update.
Notice for RefMan v10 Network, Volume license and multi-copy customers:
If your department or organization has the Network version of Reference
Manager 10 or holds a volume or multi-copy license for v10, plese submit
your request to receive the 10.0.1 update CD at no charge by emailing
us at services@adeptscience.co.uk
with your serial number enclosed.
Notice for RefMan v9.x users: When PubMed has completed implementing
its planned changes the Internet Search feature in RefMan v9.x will no
longer work. Due to the magnitude of the engineering modifications necessary,
we will not be able to update RefMan v9.x to maintain the Internet Search
connectivity with PubMed. We recommend all RefMan v9.x users, who rely
extensively on searching PubMed through RefMan, upgrade to RM v10.0.1.
Options for RM v9.x users:
-
A) You can upgrade to v10.0.1 and continue
to utilize the Internet Search command to query PubMed directly from
your Reference Manager. For upgrade information, please see http://www.refman.com/rmwhatsnew.asp.
B) You can browse the PubMed website and save your references
into a text file that can be imported into the software. To do this:
1. Browse to the PubMed website through an Internet browser.
2. Enter your searches in the website (Select "Clipboard"
from the "Send to" drop down menu to save records from multiple
searches as you work).
3. On the search results page, select "MEDLINE" in the dropdown
menu next to the "Display" button.
4. Choose "File" from the "Send to" drop down
menu, and then click "Send to".
5. Click on the "Save" button and save the
file somewhere easily accessible such as your desktop (we recommend
saving with the file extension *.txt).
6. In Reference Manager, open the database/library where you would
like these references saved.
7. Select the "References...Import Text File" command.
8. In the Filters field, select the Browse button [...], select PubMed.cap
9. In the Text File field, select the Browse button [...], and then
select your downloaded *.txt file.
10. Click the Import button.
The text references that you downloaded from the website will be imported
into your database/library. If you have any questions, please feel
free to call our technical support department.
We believe the actions being undertaken at PubMed ultimately will improve
the reliability of your access to PubMed in the long term and we are committed
to taking advantage of these enhancements in our current program versions.
Thank you for using Reference Manager,
