MapleSim - Supports Open Modelica Standard

Why Modelica?

Modelica® is an open standard for describing physical models and components. Many components in MapleSim are from the Modelica Standard Library. Because these Modelica components have been developed over many years and validated by industry, engineers can have confidence that their MapleSim model will provide an accurate representation of the system.

By using Modelica, MapleSim delivers a level of understanding and insight that is not possible with “black-box” tools. All MapleSim models and components can be exported to Modelica, which exposes the core of the model and ensures that engineers can troubleshoot simulations at the deepest level. This open standard also allows engineers to modify the functionality of existing components to best suit their needs.

Maplesoft is committed to supporting the Modelica open standard and wishes to encourage the development and use of common component libraries. Maplesoft is proud to be playing a part in fostering a community of like-minded engineers willing to share their skills and knowledge. By adhering to the Modelica standard, we believe that we are contributing to a technical skills framework and common pool of knowledge that can assist engineering organisations to efficiently develop innovative processes and products that will ultimately benefit everyone.

Users can directly import Modelica components and libraries and then seamlessly incorporate them into MapleSim models. This functionality allows engineers to take advantage of the growing collection of components available to the community. These components have been thoroughly tested, documented, and used extensively by an existing pool of users. Third-party components are often highly specialized and contain the distilled technical knowledge of subject matter experts. Typically, engineers require an enormous amount of time to develop these components on their own.

Currently, libraries, components, and models based on the electrical, 1-D mechanical, signals, thermal fluids, magnetic, and thermal heat flow domains from the Modelica 3.1 Standard Library can be imported into MapleSim and included seamlessly with standard MapleSim components and models.

What's Next?

Maplesoft is working to expand the collection of Modelica components that can be imported directly into MapleSim. If you have models or components that are not imported automatically, contact Maplesoft, and we will work with you to bring your Modelica content into MapleSim..
