After installing Tecplot, the PATH environment variable was overwritten and some of the other applications no longer run

Tecplot 10 Release 4 uses the Wise installer. If the contents of the PATH environment variable are longer than 255 characters, then the Wise installer will overwrite it. This is why the other applications do not run. If this has occurred on your system, restoring your system to a point before the installation will also restore your PATH variable. Then we suggest installing Tecplot 10 Release 6. Release 6 uses a different installer (Install Shield) that does not affect the contents of the PATH variable.
